Mayuri Patel, MA, is Practicing Excellence’s Clinician Experience Project Partner Spotlight for May! Mayuri is the Medical Assistant Coordinator for Farmington Road Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Health.
For Mayuri, her coworkers are family – being chosen by her peers to be the Medical Assistant Coordinator, being supportive of her team and honing her craft as a leader are her two greatest priorities. To see how the Clinician Experience Project (CEP) helps her achieve both of these aspirations, read our interview with Mayuri below!
How long have you been in health care, and what are your favorite parts about it?
I have been in the Henry Ford Health care system for seven years. One of the best moments in my career was when my coworkers nominated me for the Medical Assistant (MA) Coordinator position. There were many MAs who had been working longer than me in the clinic, yet they still nominated me. They believed in me – they thought I could do something better for the clinic as well as the whole team.
What are your favorite parts of leading and participating in a care team?
For me, my work family is like family since I spend so much time with them every day. This is my favorite part of my team – we treat patients and each other with empathy, respect, trust, communication, and care. We bond and build relationships with providers and our peers, learning to work and grow as a whole team.
What areas has your team improved most?
There have been so many ups and downs due to staffing problems and COVID, but we went through it all as a team and worked it out together. The Clinician Experience Project tapped us back in to that care for each other – when someone doesn’t/can’t show up for work, we immediately act with concern, wondering if they are okay and looking for ways to support them and each other during their absence. It’s this care that makes this whole team stronger.
What have you done to engage your team to prevent the CEP program tips from becoming “one more thing”?
We’ve made the work environment fun by giving out appreciation for those active in the app and sharing patient care experiences and stories in relation to tips we learned that week.
In what ways have you seen your team implement CEP tips into their work?
The Clinician Experience Project has great educational information and tips that we’ve been able to implement into our day-to-day work with patients, our team, and in our personal lives.
Thank you Mayuri for sharing your story with us! We are so grateful to have you and your team as our partners and we look forward to what you accomplish next with the Clinician Experience Project!
