July 2023 NEP Partner Spotlight – Nikki Moore

Nikki Moore, BSN, RN, is our Nursing Experience Project (NEP) Partner Spotlight! For Nikki, work revolves around relationships – both with her patients and her team. To see how Nikki utilizes NEP to master her and her team’s patient connection capabilities, read our interview with her below!

How long have you been in nursing, and what are your favorite parts about it?

I have been a nurse for 16 years and my favorite part about nursing is building relationships with patients and my team.

What are your favorite parts of leading a team of nurses?

What I enjoy most about leading a team of nurses is the team building process, creating the best team that works TOGETHER to care for our patients and each other.

In what areas has your team improved the most?

My team’s culture has improved the most with this program. I know this because it shows in patient feedback and patient satisfaction measurements. I see it every day as the team works together to provide excellent care for our patients even when circumstances aren’t always optimal. Their ability to work together to overcome challenges, such as a complex patient or a deteriorating situation, continues to improve.

What have you done to engage your nurses to prevent this from feeling like “one more thing”?

To engage my team of nurses in the NEP, we downloaded the app, went through the first few tips together and utilized the report of participants to create recognition, such as gift cards, for those who continue to participate in the program. The weekly tip with QR codes is also posted at our nurses’ station as a quick reminder for them to log in and view the video.

In what ways have you seen your nurses implement tips into their work?

The First Impression section of tips supported our nursing bedside handoff process. The nursing team utilized the tips in this module to create better first impressions with their patients and patient families by performing introductions, remaining confident even when conversations require seeking answers from others, and building rapport. Making connections with patients and their families helps them feel confident in the care they’re receiving.

Thank you, Nikki, for sharing your story with us! We are excited to see what you accomplish in the future with the Nursing Experience Project.
